WHO IS IT FOR?

While Protowords is flexible enough to be used for any type of writing, it is primarily designed to solve the unique challenges that come with writing novels.

Novels are complex projects that require a lot from their writers over a long period of time.  Unfortunately, the writing software available is only good at solving problems before and after the first draft.  Some are decent with outlining or worldbuilding; most can handle editing and formatting.  But what about the draft?  This is when things start to get difficult, and you’re lucky to get a dark mode.

If you’re the type of person who can just open any text editor and write effortlessly, you probably don’t need this app.  For the rest of us, especially new writers, the rough draft writing process can be challenging.  But if we desire to finish novels and become professional authors, we have to do what we can to make that first draft easier to write.  Protowords aims to do that.

Maybe for you, the writing experience is key, and having to use ugly or bloated software is unenjoyable.  Protowords has a sleek, minimalist interface and focuses on making it feel good to write.

Maybe you find it difficult to transition from life’s concerns into the headspace you need for writing.  This is where Protowords’ immersive themes come in.  Some software has ‘themes’, but they’re an afterthought and often more distracting than they are helpful.  Protowords themes use colors, fonts, and sounds to give you the vibe of a setting without overwhelming you. It allows your thoughts and emotions to sync with your story in a way that no other app does.

Maybe you’re stuck in plotter mode, constantly outlining, worldbuilding, and organizing.  There is a time for doing these things, and then there’s a time to write your novel.  Protowords allows you to have a separate space in your writing process for getting through the rough draft, free of not just distractions, but excuses.

Maybe you’re a perfectionist stuck in revision mode, and you don’t allow the first draft to be rough.  In Protowords, there are a couple features that address this.  There is a no-edits mode which prevents you from doing anything to your text except adding words.  There’s also a feature that blurs all unfocused text – a subtle push to not look back.

So, no matter which reason you have for struggling to finish your rough draft, Protowords can make things easier.
